Calculating mailings online: Deutsche Post right in the shop

Direct marketing needs explaining – but the price still has to be clear instantly. How we bring calculation, data and dispatch together.

Anyone who wants to send a mailing has lots of questions: which format? Which run? Who addresses, who prints, what does postage cost? In traditional business, a quote after a call answers that. Online, customers expect the answer immediately.

For Adressdruck's shop, we solved this. It took three building blocks.

1. Real-time calculation

The price of a mailing depends on many factors: run, format, paper, printing, addressing, enveloping and other services. With our product configurator configento, customers put together their mailing themselves. The price is recalculated continuously.

Rules ensure that only what can actually be produced fits together. That saves queries – and prevents orders that would have to be corrected later.

2. Taking over data securely

A mailing comes with address lists and print files. Customers upload both directly when ordering. The data is linked to the order and passed to production together.

With address data in particular: it is used only for the order and transferred and stored as data protection law requires.

3. Deutsche Post in the shop

The shop is connected directly to Deutsche Post – for Print-Mailing and POSTAKTUELL. Deutsche Post products including postage flow into the calculation, and dispatch is ordered without switching media.

And afterwards: payment and accounting

Business customers often pay by direct debit. For that, the shop has SEPA direct debit with built-in mandate management. Payment data goes to accounting as a DATEV export – again without retyping.

What carries over

The principle works for many print products and services: wherever a price results from many factors, customer data is taken over and an external service provider is connected, the path from quote to order can be almost fully automated.
